Replenishment at Sea

Capt. Turner was due to be replaced by Capt. Rumble. Before
he handed over command to Capt. Rumble he had our Recon plane fly over and take
a photo of us during a replenishment at sea in the Tonkin Gulf.

What's kind of cool for me is the fact that I was one of
the QM's (Masterhelmsman) that was steering at the time. Capt. Turner
signed each photo and presented them to the people that worked on the bridge
with him so I know very few of the crew of the America on her first Vietnam Tour
got one.
For members of the America crew that would like to download
a full resolution copy of the photo so that they can have it printed the link is
below.
Full size photo. Note that this will open a separate page. You can right-click the photo and choose Save picture as... to download it to your PC.
I reduced the file size a little on my web server to about
2.5 megs to keep bandwidth lower. This should still be sufficient for printing
an 8 x 10 copy of the photo.
I think this was taken on our return from the Tonkin Gulf in 1968 probably late Nov. early Dec. in the Atlantic around the South American Coast.
The ship is the AO-55 USS ELOKOMIN
