The eleven phots below taken from the Navy Yard in Philly and places shown - April 19, 2005 by a private citizen, annonymous. coptright 2005.
As I look through the photos again, I remember the day. It was surreal, seeing that great ship bearing the name of my country - the ship that served as diplomat around the world. It seemed the only inhabitants now were ghosts while, in her day, dignitaries from a myriad of foreign countries were welcomed on her decks. Three tours to Vietnam. The landing "field" for a U-2. The USS Liberty incident. A life-line during the "Line of Death". Now the strange lights flickering throughout her seemed so faint for a city on the sea- a small boatload of explosives on her roof. Her brave crew manning the decks now replaced by men in hard hats. All eyes were on her though. Some with tears. She seemed unwilling to go, but like a good soldier-sailor, followed orders out to sea once more. I still can't believe we dragged her out like that. annonymous
